Automotive Interfaces (CAN, Audio)

Automotive interfaces deliver sound and data throughout the car to combine connectivity with mobility. ADI’s portfolio of automotive interface products encompass communication signaling that utilizes both the CAN (controller area network) protocol and A2B® (Automotive Audio Bus®) technology. Isolated CAN with iCoupler® digital isolation features integrated isoPower® and signal-only transceivers in an SOIC form factor or a complete galvanically isolated µModule® (micromodule) transceiver—both with options that support CAN FD (flexible data rate). ADI’s A2B-enabled digital audio systems distribute high fidelity audio along with control data, clock, and power over a single, unshielded, low cost twisted-pair wire. The A2B automotive interface delivers high fidelity audio while significantly reducing the weight of existing cable harnesses for improved vehicle fuel efficiency and a better, greener, more dynamic automotive experience. A2B devices meet all relevant automotive interface ESD, EMI, and EMC requirements, and are fully AEC-Q100 qualified.

IO-Link

The IO-Link® interface simplifies communication to smart sensors and actuators, combining signaling with power-over-cable technology. It has become one of the key devices as industrial automation systems are growing more interconnected and intelligent to accommodate demands for centralized control and optimized production. Analog Devices implements both device PHY and master PHY interfaces (COM1/COM2/COM3). Designing with harsh industrial environments in mind, the master 4-port IO-Link power and communications interface, as well as the IO-Link transceivers featuring Integrated Step-Down Regulators and LDO with ±60V cable interface protection provide the required ruggedness. Optimum EMC performance is achieved with adjustable current limit and slew rate transmitters. Automatic wake-up request (WURQ) generation and an output supply current boosting capability for device startup are also available. Additional components integrate a 300 mA step-down (buck) regulator and a 150 mA LDO to supply all the power required for internal electronics in an connected sensor or actuator.

Level Translators

ADI’s level translators offer the most flexible level translation solutions in the industry. The ADG3241 series translators allow direct 3.3 V to 1.8 V translation by means of the innovative SEL pin function while allowing bidirectional data transfer. The ADG3231 series allows wide range 1.65 V to 3.6 V translation and the ADG3308 series allows the industry's widest 1.2 V to 5.5 V up or down translation while permitting bidirectional data transfer.

LVDS/MLVDS

LVDS (Low voltage differential signaling) is a standard for communicating at high speed in point-to-point applications and M-LVDS (Multipoint LVDS) is a similar standard for multi-point applications. Both LVDS and M-LVDS offer a long-distance digital interface for serial communication over an electrical interconnect.

Analog Device's LVDS portfolio includes isolated LVDS and non-isolated LVDS & M-LVDS transmitters/line drivers and receivers. With 8 kV IEC ESD performance standards for robust, inter-board applications in harsh electrostatic environments, our LVDS modules conform to the TIA/EIA-644 LVDS standard with data rates up to 600Mbps. The M-LVDS products are ideal for applications where designers need to transmit at data rates up to 100 Mbps or 250 Mbps to multiple nodes. M-LVDS allows a single pair of differential lines to carry this high speed information, saving on connector size and reducing the number of lanes required to fan out this information. Integration of Analog Devices' iCoupler® technology allows for high speed operation that also provides drop-in galvanic isolation of LVDS signal chains. Isolated LVDS with data rates of up to 2.5 Gbps with very low jitter opens up new applications in Instrumentation and Digital Health.

Mobile I/O Expander and Keypad Controller

Analog Devices' family of mobile I/O expanders are ideal for smartphone designs and portable devices that require a large extended keypad and/or expanded I/Os such as inventory scanners, medical equipment, and meter readers. Microprocessors in portable systems are GPIO constrained due to the number of functions they must interface with and control. They are also power hungry, making them inefficient for debouncing, polling, and key press scanning algorithms. ADI’s family of mobile I/O expanders offloads key scan and GPIO functions from the CPU, freeing up the processor for higher priority functions while saving energy.

Multiprotocol Transceivers

Analog Devices’ RS-232/RS-485 multiprotocol transceivers are the only parts in the market that allow protocol switching and allow for switching between half-/full-duplex operation and switching on/off termination resistors, both of which minimize physical user intervention when reconfiguring networks. Features include 3.3 V to 5 V operation, up to ±26 kV ESD, a logic supply pin, and small LFCSP packages. As large-scale computing applications typically require more protocols than the RS-232 and RS-485 protocols found in everyday applications, we support legacy protocols. These include V.28 (RS-232), V.35, RS-449, RS-530, RS-530-A, V.36, or X.21. Software-selectable protocol, cable termination, and data terminal equipment (DTE) or data communications equipment (DCE) configurations all provide convenient flexibility.

RS-232 / RS-422 / RS-485 / RS-562

Analog Devices offers a wide range of RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, and RS-562 transceivers to suit applications for nonisolated interfaces, as well as digital isolation requirements using iCoupler® technology. The RS-232 specification allows for reliable data transmission from one transmitter to one receiver at data rates of up to 20 kbps over distances of up to 50 feet, or up to 1 Mbps over distances of up to 5 feet for more recent RS-232 transceiver chips. While similar to RS-232, the RS-562 standard differs by specifying a minimum driver output voltage of ±3.7 V to ease power supply requirements. The RS-485 specification meets the requirements for a truly multipoint communications network, while the RS-422 specification satisfies simplex multidrop standards.

Serial Bus Buffers, Extenders, and Accelerators

The Analog Devices family of I2C solutions support hot swappable, 2-wire bidirectional bus buffers to allow I/O card insertion into a live backplane without corruption of the data and clock busses. Additional supported 2-wire buses include SMBus, PMBus, the ATCA intelligent platform management bus (IPMB), and the HDMI DDC bus. I2C/SMBus Accelerators improve bus transitions to allows multiple device connections or a longer, more capacitive interconnect, without compromising slew rates or bus performance. ADI's software-programmable and pin-selectable I2C multiplexers help resolve I2C address limitations, increase fan-in or fan-out, and integrate bus buffers and rise time accelerators for an all-in-one solution. Resistor configurable I2C address translators can be configured with over 100 unique slave addresses to allow multiple slave devices with the same address to coexist on the same bus.
