These features ensure systems operate at their optimal efficiency, speed, and power levels, while increasing feature density and reducing cost of ownership. Supported by the industry’s most comprehensive start-to-finish power design tool suite, along with highly configurable power interconnect solutions, ADI’s low complexity power management solutions help our customers accelerate time-to-market while delivering best-in-class performance.
Battery Management
Analog Devices offers a broad portfolio of high performance battery management IC devices including battery chargers, companion battery charge controllers, and battery backup managers.
Battery chargers are for both wireless and wired applications and may be used for any rechargeable battery chemistry. Companion battery charger controllers are used in conjunction with virtually any internally compensated switching regulator to form a complete battery charging solution. Battery backup managers enable battery charging and backup power from the battery to the system output in the event of a system power removal or outage.
Current Sources
Analog Devices’ portfolio of dedicated constant current source products offer ease of use and design; voltage, current, and thermal protection; and built-in current limiting. Constant current sources can be designed using a number of standard analog building blocks, including op amps, LED drivers, and battery chargers.
Energy Harvesting
Analog Devices offers a wide range of ultra low power ICs for energy harvesting applications. Power management products that convert energy from vibration (piezoelectric), photovoltaic (solar), and thermal (TEC, TEG, thermopiles, thermocouples) sources provide high efficiency conversion to regulated voltages or to charge batteries and super capacitor storage elements. Boost converters that operate from as little as 20 mV or battery chargers with maximum power point capability expand the possibilities for industrial automation and control, wireless sensor, transportation, automotive, and building management applications. Ultra low quiescent current linear regulators, op amps, comparators, voltage supervisors, ADCs, DACs, and micropower voltage references provide additional building blocks for autonomous systems.
Inductorless (Charge Pump) DC/DC Converters
Analog Devices’ family of charge pumps offers the widest selection of simple and compact inductorless dc-to-dc converter designs. These converters can be used to step-up, step-down, or invert an input voltage. By eliminating the inductor, these switched capacitor converters provide a small solution footprint and a simpler design. Furthermore, by incorporating spread spectrum technology on-chip, both input and output noise are significantly reduced.
isoPower
Analog Devices isoPower® technology utilizes proprietary iCoupler® chip scale transformers to integrate isolated dc-to-dc converts with data isolation into a single package. This enables designers to implement isolation in designs without the cost, size, power, performance, and reliability constraints found with optocouplers. With more than one billion channels shipped into the field, these magnetically isolated products are a safe, reliable and easy-to-use alternative to optocouplers.
LDO Linear Regulators
Analog Devices manufactures a broad line of high performance low dropout (LDO) linear regulators. These LDO linear regulators offer very low dropout, fast transient response, and excellent line and load regulation, features that add performance value to end applications in Wired/Wireless and Audio Systems, FPGA/DSP/µC Power, and RF and instrumentation. The wide selection of our LDO Linear Regulators offer a great variety of features that meet your need in any design, whether it's low noise, high PSRR, or compact packaging.
LED Driver IC
Analog Devices has a very broad line of LED driver ICs for automotive, display backlighting, handheld, and general high-power lighting applications. They are configured as either inductorless (charge pump) or switching regulator-based LED drivers that support driving white LEDs in series, parallel or combination. Topologies include boost regulator, buck regulator, buck/boost, SEPIC topology LED drivers, and more. Regardless of topology, these ICs offer the highest efficiency, lowest noise, and the smallest footprints. Other features of our portfolio include integrated Schottky diodes, accurate LED current matching, and multiple output capability.
PMIC and Multifunction
Many of Analog Devices’ battery management products combine the functionality of our standalone battery chargers with one or more other functions. Our power management IC (PMIC) products combine battery charging, PowerPath control, and one or more dc-to-dc regulators for a complete power solution for handheld products. Our PowerPath products and architecture allow the load to be powered from both VIN and the battery—ensuring shorter charging time and more flexibility for portable device design. They also enable instant-on in systems with a depleted battery. Other features include dual inputs for USB and wall adapters, switching regulators, comparators, or LDOs.
Power Control
Analog Devices power control portfolio include ideal diodes, PowerPath controllers, MOSFET drivers, bridge drivers, and other nonregulator power applications.
Supercapacitor Chargers
Analog Devices offers a portfolio of supercapacitor charger ICs designed to charge supercapacitors (also known as ultracapacitors). These supercapacitor charger devices come in both linear and switching topologies and offer input or output current limiting, automatic cell balancing, and a range of protection features that make them uniquely suited to supercap charging. Due to the number of advantages supercapacitors have, such as lower effective series resistance (ESR) and enhanced durability in the face of repeated charging, they are an increasingly important alternative to batteries in applications where the importance of power delivery trumps that of total energy storage.
Switching Regulators
Analog Devices offers a wide range of switching regulators that operate in step up (boost), step down (buck), and inverting modes. These devices are capable of generating a fixed or adjustable output voltage, and offer up to 2 A of output current. Some of the features available in ADI’s portfolio of switching regulators are low battery detector, user adjustable current limit, a variety of switching frequencies, and a reduced number of external components. This highly integrated, versatile family of products is intended to minimize external components for space challenged applications.
µModule Regulators
Analog Devices’ µModule® (micromodule) regulators and dc-to-dc power products are complete system-in-package (SiP) power management solutions with integrated dc-to-dc controllers, power transistors, input and output capacitors, compensation components, and inductors within a compact, surface-mount BGA or LGA package. µModule power products support functions such as step-down (buck), step-down and step-up (buck-boost), battery charger, isolated converter, and LED driver. As a highly integrated solution with PCB Gerber files available for every device, µModule power products address time and space constraints while delivering a high efficiency, reliable, and, with select products, a low EMI solution compliant with EN 55022 Class B standards.
